Welcome to the AU Workshop! We understand adapting a character for an AU game can be a difficult process, even if you have all the creativity in the world, so we've put this together to help! Just fill out the form and post it in a comment below, and sort of brain out which ideas stick!

Keep in mind this is not a reserve. Reserves will open on the 3rd, as always, and you don't need to use this if you're already sure of your ideas! This is just a fun creative exercise that we hope you enjoy and find helpful!

I'm really interested to see how their CR might shake out in this setting, given that Rin is actively working as a mercenary for different corporate groups while Liir has only recently gotten out of a similar line of work. Maybe his perspective on the other side of that line will be good for her? We could also do something with them both being scouted by Yakashbah, maybe, since Rin has the experience for the group but isn't inclined to align herself with them at this point.

I'm very down with some ideological conflict! While Rin's heart is largely in the right place, she can often get fixated on freedom over justice, and she's very much a pragmatist in the end. Sometimes you have to do things that aren't pretty for the sake of a worthy goal, and all that. (Well, they probably both understand that part, but...)

but yes! that would be good. if anything, Celty didn't have much of a social life for obvious reasons but certainly would have tried to find a way to connect as ... ah crud I need to figure out a good alternate for her canon online alias "Setton" as it doesn't have a real world equivalent.

maybe for convenience it would work but I just feel it's a little odd for an alias Celty "my name is just 'Celtic' but cutesy" would select. the existing name was literally selected for fake credentials under a time crunch and chosen at random from a list. also I like overthinking things, as you know.

Did you say "friends from the Last Ward" and "hating on the Zaibatsu in particular?" My Physical Adept-ass biokinetic OC has a day job as a convenience store clerk in the Market District, lives in the Last Ward, and moonlights as the vigilante Yeowoo.

"Yeowoo" could know Levi! Either as a coworker at the NSO and/or from the time they spend/waste playing VR MMOs and MOBAs.

Also, they agree; gender is extremely fake.

Expect Liir to try to push her to join them over him because he thinks their focusing on him would actually be bad for The Cause. Famous name or not, he thinks she's more competent/strong/experienced/pretty and thus better qualified.

It's a pretty close copy-over of canon too, so much worse when you think he's just a friendly glitchy AI for half the game before you find out... oh *no*.... he used to be a *person* and the glitches are who he was before... ohhh noooooooooo...

BUT YES, he might not be very recognizable at first (although the glitches... ahahah) but this is a possibility! He was Not A Good Person before getting all brainjacked, so I feel like he probably made a real name for himself back then. Canon moniker being the "Beast of Bones" but I'll have to think about details for AU...

CHARACTER: Urza Planeswalker
CANON: Magic: The Gathering.

AU NAME: Urza Harbin
AU AGE: Early 50s (PB is John Glover)

BLURB: Urza Harbin was born and raised in a family of means, with a wealthy father and an academic for a mother, and spent most of his early years ensconced in the best schooling available. He excelled, and was regarded as something of a prodigy when it came to science and engineering fields, obtaining multiple doctorates by the time he turned thirty-five. He has published a number of papers on artificial intelligence, robotics, and new methods of applying them. He's famous, or at least niche-scientist famous. He married a fellow academic (this aspect is subject to change tho) and taught for a few years.

From there he went on to work for various companies to build his reputation before moving into the head developer at a robotics research firm, where he has the pull (and lack of oversight) to basically work unhindered on advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence. Ostensibly the company pays him to work on weapons, but Urza has enough standing that most of his research is stuff he is interested in and profit for the company is just a byproduct of his work.

However for all his education, Urza is secretly a metahuman. His gifts are primarily focused on technoempathy and an enhanced intellect not all that dissimilar from a supercomputer, though he possesses a rarely used ferrokinetic ability as well. Simply put, his brain understands machines and can manipulate them to suit his needs.

Urza is a bit of a harsh man, mostly because he sees the world as a giant network of organic and inorganic machines and has trouble relating to normal people. He's not mean or harsh, he's just blunt and awkward to most people. However, he is deeply passionate about AI, robotics, and also education...and so is happy to help work with kids on STEM projects and do guest lectures at colleges and high schools, even running an outreach program for kids in bad neighborhoods to learn more about science and engineering. Think like a combination of Otto Octavius and Bill Nye, without the supervillain aspects attached.

LOOKING FOR: I'm open to anything, really. Urza could theoretically have a PC wife and family. Students, people he's inspired, people who HATE him, AI, Robots, really I'm good with ideas, just throw them at me.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I think the only character I'm really looking at is Urza.

yes, excellent, i like both options!! levi probably sticks with competitive shooters like Fantasy Overwatch and Future Destiny but they've definitely dabbled in MOBAs before.

the whole "gender is fake" concept is something that would absolutely draw levi's attention, too, just 'cause like. i really don't think the central ward is too chill about gender, you know? so like they probably picked all this stuff up out on the streets and then they joined up with NSO and were like "hey i'm not actually a freak, cool"

ACTUALLY HEY i'm reading through things and i think the timeline works where, like, yeowoo could've been an early point of contact for levi in NSO? just someone they could talk to about brain problems and stuff like that, and maybe learn to cope with it over time? i don't know if time actually works out like that or how long she's been with NSO vs. levi but

Yeah, I am super chill with them awkwardly meeting in the NSO, we can make the dates sync. I'm imagining them awkwardly sitting in a support group for The Genders together and then laughing it off at arcades afterwards

Put it this way: he was a proud dude, he'd follow a code of honor among underworld types. But he also liked doing a big murder too, money was just a bonus. So it's a little... ehhhhh.... Probably not the worst? But also not good.

I'm not sure if or how our characters would know each other but I just wanted to give you props for playing Urza. WOW.



That said Yeowoo does do most of her work in those bad neighborhoods, and his work was probably adapted to vidya gaem AI, which is sort of her passion. So Urza may have an admirer of his work and science outreach at least.
