Welcome to the AU Workshop! We understand adapting a character for an AU game can be a difficult process, even if you have all the creativity in the world, so we've put this together to help! Just fill out the form and post it in a comment below, and sort of brain out which ideas stick!

Keep in mind this is not a reserve. Reserves will open on the 3rd, as always, and you don't need to use this if you're already sure of your ideas! This is just a fun creative exercise that we hope you enjoy and find helpful!

After some serious consideration on my own character’s backstory, I can see someone looking for missing metas on Jinx’s This One Can Stay list. She’s normally super anti-law enforces but sometimes... desperate times??

CHARACTER: Lan Wangji
CANON: Mo Dao Zu Shi

AU NAME: Same
AU AGE: 24-ish
BLURB: Lan Wangji will be a meta-human and his clan of Gusu are half human and half-meta-human in population so it's a mix and they're a peaceful clan who tolerates both races with fairness, in particular, he can channel his spiritual/psychic energy through his voice and his instrument. He can play the guqin or electric type instruments. What's more his spirit energy has a funny effect on electronics where he can control the energy of his computer with the sound of his voice to make music. I'm not clear how this work, but this will be a general idea.

I think his interest will be making music/AMSR videos online, like making a channel and videos of his own, and be a self-made idol/model as his hobby and source of income. Like making techno music/digital music even though his family is very traditional in music.

His canon history will be kept, in terms of, he's the second heir (his older brother is the first) to be the leader of the Gusu Lan Sect, and the spiritual powers he can exorcise ghosts/spirits, so ghost-hunting and visiting haunt places to bless a home can be a side job for him, but not what he enjoys doing it as he rather used his powers to sing and play and be an internet self-made star.

In the meanwhile, he'll be a part-time student at nearby studying music and art in one of the University.

LOOKING FOR: I'm looking for all positive CR! In canon, he does have a brother and uncle. For now, I leave it open and I will say he travels to the city to be a student and make his own luck. Lan Wangji is a strong silent type. Friends or children to adopt or foster. Also open to roommates.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I'm open to any CR, even cross-canon or from his canon!

Heeeeey, finally here. It's your not yet future boyfriend (who is also into technomancy).

Debating maybe something similar to canon, he'll be an old friend and classmate who remembers him? Wei Ying thought he doesn't like him because Lan Wangji is mean and ignoring him.

Somehow they meet again (maybe going to classes together) and just trying to reconnect. Of course, Lan Wangji won't recognize him unless there's a song or a specific event or memory that ties them together.

I'm still working on how and why he died, but he will still be "posessing" Mo Xuanyu's body.

Maybe how he acts gives him away? Having a song would be good too. Maybe they run into each other out there and then is dragged back to the school?

It's an AU, so it can be reimagined basing on canon.

That would work! Lan Wangji really works hard on that song and he will slowly noticed how he acts and behave (no underage drinking!) Definitely run into each other and get dragged back to school. Given their ages, I'll say it's a university/college.

There should be the Neo Sapien Organization.

I figure in the past Wei Wuxian was connected to a family that was under the Douman Zaibatsu organization. Went to an elite school, made friends, and then, did stuff and became enemy number 1 somehow. Researched a bunch of cybernetic stuff, then died in his 20s.

Maybe Lan Wangji's family could be related to a prestigious boarding school/university that they all went to?

He's willing to put up with a lot as long as they're not actually out to harm Seven Tower, haha. By himself he's not very passionate about the cult's cause/just kind of plays along since he's funding the entire mind control pyramid. They could get along at least I think!

AU NAME: Street name is Nephenee, but her adopted first name is Marigold. She goes mostly by her street name. Taken last name is Vertegrez.
AU AGE: 24-ish

BLURB: Meta-human who can manipulate metals and, to a much lesser extent, earth. She's lived in the city for several years now after being rescued with others from a project that essentially tried to make child soldiers out of meta-humans and helping a small group of meta-human vigilantes take that group and another out so others don't deal with the same thing she did. She's been searching for her family, but with no real success beyond some possible leads.

She's very kind and nice to a fault, but also shy and a bit socially-stunted from the whole affair, and while she legally does work as a guard and other things, she's been helping the NSO for a bit now. She can also be a bit too serious just by virtue of everything, and is VERY protective of kids.

The main physical difference Nephenee has from her canon counterpart is her hair color. It's naturally a darker auburn, but her powers tend to shift it to her canon color of emerald green, like copper developing a verdigris. In-universe, this is either an effect of her powers normally or some of the stuff they used with her while she was in captivity.

Hobbies include training in various disciplines and some martial arts, cooking, and...probably some other stuff. Maybe reading. Despite not remembering a lot of her childhood, she also shows a strong affinity for plants and animals, having grown up on a farm.

OH, and she has a rather strong country accent. In RL terms, probably roughly a South Carolinian one. I don't care how she sounds in Heroes because her voices there suck, she has an accent that doesn't go away fully even when she tries to force it off.

LOOKING FOR: Ideas/feedback and friends/adoptive family! She's kind of lonely and she desperately needs people that can keep her from getting too serious and that she can love on.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I would LOVE to have canonmates from her games. So far I've figured that several people in the group she worked with are tied to others in Greil's Mercenaries, but I'm open to ideas and people apping those however they wish! But CR in general is what I want, with everyone!

Oh lord I'm looking Levi's power and realize that plus metal manipulation might be a fun combo for causing havok sometime. Nephenee's got that plus some earth manipulation (mostly regarding metal in the earth) as a sidebit, which helps her stay grounded...I wonder if that might be a good way to help Levi discharge their lightning somewhat safer one day? or at least attempt it.

The metallurgist here also has anxiety and memory issues, so she might be able to help Levi handle it better emotionally by giving them someone to talk to. Would you like an older sister-type for this? And also for video gaming potentially.

OK THIS IS INTERESTING... 👀 i've actually been thinking about this a lot since i posted this comment lmao and i feel like the liaising with the NSO is a relatively new thing for the company (i'm thinking about just calling it the marshals service, even though my idea is that the marshals service no longer really exists as a branch of law enforcement purely bc it seems to me like the police are a more unanimous force in this world? but correct me if i'm wrong) but i was wondering what kind of like... weapons permits/rights a private company like this would have?

police are definitely corporate entities in this world, with the Douman Zaibatsu controlling New Gate City's police force, specifically. you'd be right in assuming there's no marshals in this system, at least not under that title or how we'd officially know them. the company would be more willing to just hire bounty hunters for that kind of work.

as far as *legal* rights to hire their own pseudo-marshals, the NSO would have... mostly none, but it doesn't strictly matter as they're a private company funded by *mysterious backers* who apparently don't answer to the Douman Zaibatsu, so unless they step on the company's toes, the NSO is allowed to do some self-policing, which would include limited weapons permits.

any actual vigilantism is supported by the NSO, but done so strictly under the table with nothing that could legally tie it to the NSO being obvious. but they totally still sponsor it.

I'm not quite sure how militant the org is, or rather how willing they are to hurt innocents in their pursuit of equality for metas, but she supports the equality bit at least, though it'll depend highly on if they take the "ends justify the means" route...

On an individual level, she'll judge based on how the person acts, not so much on the org necessarily...she might be wary depending, but given she was fighting anti-meta-human groups at one point...she can't throw stones too much.

Also auto-correct kept trying to correct "metas" to "meats"...We're Arby's now, y'all!
