Welcome to the AU Workshop! We understand adapting a character for an AU game can be a difficult process, even if you have all the creativity in the world, so we've put this together to help! Just fill out the form and post it in a comment below, and sort of brain out which ideas stick!

Keep in mind this is not a reserve. Reserves will open on the 3rd, as always, and you don't need to use this if you're already sure of your ideas! This is just a fun creative exercise that we hope you enjoy and find helpful!

AU NAME: Atomic Robo
AU AGE: 80-ish still working the timeline out

BLURB: Atomic Robo is one of the oldest truly sapient AIs on Earth, and was built well before the field was fully understood by Nikola Tesla an unknown scientist in the late 21st century. He is powered by a nuclear reactor the size of a grapefruit. Because so much of the technology that Robo runs on his mysterious black box technology that no one can understand (though AI research has more or less caught up with him by now), he’s becoming something of a media spotlight. Various figures over his career have called him a hoax that is remote controlled by a human actor, a threatening figure that will someday replace humanity, a walking nuclear meltdown waiting to happen, a treasure trove of advanced technology that needs to be disassembled and reverse engineered as soon as possible, an appliance that we need to stop treating like it is actually a person, and many other things. Robo himself has spent his life supporting scientific endeavors around the world and championing AI rights movements (for obvious reasons. He’s appeared on talk shows to discuss the subject.), and according to rumors he has done a fair amount of off the books adventuring.

Most recently, Robo has moved to New Gate City because he’s interested in the metahuman rights movement, as he has gone through similar struggles himself. He took a lot longer than his OU self to achieve legal personhood, so his influence is a lot smaller in this universe.

LOOKING FOR: Other AIs he can try to be a parental figure to (if he feels like they need guidance. If they’re doing fine he’ll treat them as an equal), people with opinions about AIs, scientists and researchers, other media figures, people with lightning powers, etc etc etc

I'm waiting on a response from the mods about what, exactly, Ada's body will be, but how would you feel about Robo dealing with an AI that is closeted/in denial about her sapience?

She was absolutely NOT designed with self-awareness in mind, she's just a cobbled together series of mods and upgrades for a navigation system that ended up that way.

So she's dealing with what that means and how to deal with the fact that her consciousness is a Jenga tower and she's not entirely sure how to undo the limitations placed on her ability to operate without accidentally undoing the things that made her able to think.

Depends on a lot of things really, but Robo would be inclined to take her side regardless of what people said, and also to try and lead her more towards self-actualization.

How about a military-grade AI who's kind of a troll and has a lack of empathy towards others?

Robo has SO MANY mixed feelings about AIs built specifically for combat holy shit. He wouldn't blame her for that lack of empathy if that's just how she was programmed but he'd also be like "pls maybe care about people?"

Also that lack of empathy is probably eventually going to end up with you killing someone and then people will be up in arms about the robot apocalypse and that won't help anyone and long story short I'm your dad now
