This is a big ENABLE ME -- because I love cyberpunk and I love AU, but I definitely only have time for one character. So here's a general check for the three I'm considering.
CHARACTER: Antryg Windrose
CANON: Windrose Chronicles, Barbara Hambly
AU NAME: Andrei Vetrov
AU AGE: 45
BLURB: Powerful meta-human working as the bartender/bouncer at a bar in the Underground on a forged ID chip. He's trying to steer clear of attention, because he's an escaped criminal on the run from a Russian death sentence after getting caught on video fighting back against police violence... with a tornado of lightning. Lightning that killed six cops.
He has a long and traumatic backstory that's left him manipulative, blithely dishonest, and both deeply skeptical of metahuman supremacists and reluctantly concerned about the innocents who get hurt by anti-metahuman prejudice. At the moment, this manifests in volunteering with the local Neo Sapien community outreach centers and, under the table, working as a black-market cybernetics repairman. His metahuman ability is perception and control of electricity, which allows him to detect and manipulate nerve impulses as well as electronics -- although he has no formal education he's a smart, curious guy who's done a lot of studying of neurology, electronics and cybernetics. Still: no formal education, no medical license, this is some seriously back-alley repair work. The price is right, though, because he's enough of a softy that he'll help people with malfunctioning implants for free.
Andrei is prone to strange obsessions and hobbies (tortoise shell rubbings, making pinwheels, carefully adhering to good-luck superstitions.) Although he's paranoid and untrusting, he's also gentle, kind and deeply concerned with others' welfare. Generally, he embraces the image of "the weird but harmless guy who's full of bullshit all the time" in order to hide the fact that he is, while weird and full of bullshit, decidedly not harmless and terrified of his own capacity to hurt others.
LOOKING FOR: He's a great mentor/protector for kids, especially of the "metahuman teenager on the streets" variety. Fellow misfits and outcasts who can appreciate his weirdness rather than getting pissed off about it are also welcome, and will receive sidewalk wildflowers and handmade pinwheels in thanks for their kindness.
Adult metahumans who have their shit together and want to try to coax this skittish feral cat of a man into doing something more meaningful with his life would make for amazing CR.
He would also be ripe for blackmail by anyone who recognizes him and wants to get him involved in shadier shit under threat of being revealed and extradited to face that death sentence.
CHARACTER: Shen Wei
CANON: Guardian (drama)
AU NAME: Shen Wei
AU AGE: 32
BLURB: An old-fashioned, polite young biotechnology professor at New Gate University, recently hired to his position from a prestigious postdoc in the Chinese megalopolis where he grew up. His research is focused on the genetic basis of metahuman abilities, but his personal politics are frustratingly difficult to pin down. He's made a few breakthroughs in the field, and is being courted by Douman Zaibatsu's pharmaceuticals department to help them develop medications that might directly affect metahuman powers.
So far, he's demurring, telling them that his research offers no help in that direction.
Secretly, he is himself not only a metahuman with the ability to generate and manipulate dark "shadows" that he can form into physical objects, but an activist and vigilante, prone to throwing on a mask and long hooded robe and stalking the Last Quarter hunting down violent criminals, helping the needy and looking for clues to human trafficking rings. He's searching for his twin brother, whose metahuman ability is the terrifying power to strengthen himself by draining the life from others; the two of them were orphans, and Shen Wei's brother was -- he believes -- kidnapped and sold into slavery to criminals who wanted to use him as a living weapon. He's tracked rumors of his brother across China and to New Gate City, and he's convinced that he'll finally be able to save him.
LOOKING FOR: Does anyone want to play Ye Zun, criminal mastermind long since broken free of the non-metahumans' control, and break his heart? It'd be amazing.
Alternatively, I'd love for him to get involved with the Yakashbah in his "Black-Cloaked Envoy" persona, try to schmooze his way through the upper-class, possibly run into other hidden metahumans among the elite or other radical pro-metahuman activists, or work uneasily with police forces who are in favor of his anti-trafficking stance but against (GESTURES TO ALL OF HIM)
CHARACTER: Victor Nikiforov
CANON: Yuri!!! on ICE
AU NAME: Victor Nikiforov
AU AGE: 28
BLURB: Professional athlete, Olympian figure skater, heartthrob of a hundred photo spreads and perfume ads, Victor Nikiforov is taking the season off due to a knee injury and getting intensive physical therapy at a world-famous clinic in New Gate City. And trying to dodge the sports reporters who all want to ask if his career is over... or spread rumors that he's really there for cybernetic augmentation, which would, of course, disqualify him from professional sports for life. They've been spreading rumors that he's got cybernetic parts for his whole career, though. What else could explain his flawless quad axel, a jump almost never seen in professional skating even a near-century after it was first landed in competition? What else could explain the precision of his skating?
Maybe he's a metahuman.
Victor Nikiforov is sick of the press, of fame, of the relentless pressure he's lived under as Russia's darling since he was a child, and he's taking this injury as an opportunity to try to live like a normal person. Not that he's letting his conditioning slide too much, of course. But it's actually a relief to be under doctor's orders to get off the ice.
(Also, he is a metahuman, but his mutation makes him grow fur like a Yeti, it offers no competitive advantage, and he has been waxing literally every inch of himself except his scalp since puberty to keep it hidden so he doesn't lose all his endorsement contracts... so, in summary, fuck the tabloid press.)
LOOKING FOR: Casual romance! Drinking buddies! People who want to exploit Victor's fame to support their particular cause, especially if that cause is metahuman rights!
People who are willing to point out to him that he's obviously burned out and miserable and needs therapy for more than just his knee....
Also, any other ice-skaters, castmates or no. You have no idea how much I'd give for Victor CR with Kaede Kaburagi.
